Beginners are always welcome.
Fencing is a sport suitable for persons of both sexes, all ages and does not require (at recreational level) exceptional degrees of physical fitness.
Despite the martial nature of fencing, it is a very safe sport. Safety is paramount and rigorously enforced across all aspects of the sport.
If you are interesting in taking up fencing, please contact us or just come along!
What should I wear?
For beginners, the club provides protective fencing equipment for both sexes and most sizes.
We suggest that you wear:
- A t-shirt - not too thick, as fencing requires two layers of protective clothing over this.
Loose fitting, high waisted sport trousers or jogging bottoms. Shorts are not acceptable for safety reasons
- Non-marking sports shoes, e.g. gym shoes, trainers or squash shoes.
It is also a good idea to bring a bottle of water or other liquid, preferably in a resealable container.
As it is necessary to wear a close fitting mask while fencing, we suggest that you choose a hair style that allows the mask to make contact with the top, sides and back of your head. We would also ask you not to use hair gel as it leaves a mess in shared equipment.
It is possible to wear glasses under a fencing mask.
